CCTV (Camera)

Closed-Circuit TeleVision (CCTV) is a camera system that consists of cameras, a recorder, and monitors for viewing the footage. Rijkswaterstaat uses three different cameras on the offshore platforms, each with its own purpose. These cameras monitor the status of the MIVSP sensors on the platforms.

How do the cameras work?

Each camera provides a different type of image: optical, thermal, or a combination of both. The thermal image, for example, shows if there is excessive heat around the sensors. The cameras also contribute to safety. For instance, there is a nautical radar mounted on the mast at the Offshore Expertise Centre (OEC). The CCTV cameras check if this radar is turned off before anyone climbs the mast. Additionally, the cameras in the technical rooms of the OEC monitor to ensure that no unauthorized persons enter.

Camera footage

Due to the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), the camera footage is not stored. For privacy reasons, the cameras are only aimed at equipment owned by Rijkswaterstaat and not at the entire platform.

Cameras are also installed on the platforms of the Borssele, Hollandse Kust Zuid, and Hollandse Kust West wind farms. The footage captured by these cameras is used exclusively for internal purposes.
