Offshore for sure

Energy from renewable sources at sea will receive a major boost in the coming years. Fifteen partners from the Netherlands and Flanders are joining their knowledge and expertise in the Offshore For Sure (O4S) project. The aim of O4S is to accelerate the energy transition at sea and boost the sustainable blue economy. O4S does this by testing five promising energy solutions in collaboration with knowledge institutions, regional and social organizations.

Five innovations and supporting partners

O4S examines five innovative solutions from technology developers with experience and a clear plan for the rollout of tidal energy, wave energy, offshore floating solar energy and energy storage:

  1. Wave energy from Dutch Wave Power
  2. Tidal energy from Water2Energy
  3. Offshore solar from Oceans of Energy
  4. Simulation of Energy Storage from FLASC
  5. Intelligent management and predictive maintenance of Tocardo tidal turbines

These technology developers can count on the knowledge and expertise of partners Bluespring, World Class Maintenance, International Marine & Dredging Consultants, Ecopower, Zmf, Parkwind, Ghent University, HOWEST, Deftiq and Rijkswaterstaat.

The role of Rijkswaterstaat

By participating in O4S, Rijkswaterstaat is committed to innovative and renewable energy applications to strengthen the transition to sustainable energy.

The Offshore Expertise Center (OEC) of Rijkswaterstaat:

  • offers technology developers access to its onshore and nearshore test facilities and provides them with offshore data for simulation and scale testing;
  • thinks about the challenges in the field of legislation and regulations;
  • participates in the Advisory Board for WP5 Education and training;
  • supports Rijkswaterstaat as a 'launching customer' in the business case for autonomous energy supply of future offshore data hubs (outside wind farms) with solar or wave energy.
